Spirometry stress test

One type of Asthma is the so called exercise-induced asthma where physical exertion triggers a narrowing of the airways. This type of asthma is often found in combination with other forms of the disease, especially allergic asthma.

If there is suspicion of exercise-induced asthma, a pulmonary function test is first carried out. The child is then prompted to participate in a physically vigorous activity, usually running. Following activity, a lung function test is repeated. Based on the results, appropriate conclusions can be drawn and specific therapies recommended if needed.
